Machatainista is a Yiddish word for the mother-in-law of my child. We don’t have this word in English. This relationship, for the mother of the person your child loves and the person who may come to share your descendants, is a special one. Here, I invoke the mother-spirit of the natural world we all inhabit and acknowledge the connection we will have through our children and their children.
